About AAMSE

 

The American Association of Medical Society Executives (AAMSE) is the professional organization of more than 900 medical society executives and staff specialists.  Through its more than 380 member organizations, it advances the profession of medicine through education, communication of knowledge, leadership development and collaboration.

Member organizations include county, regional, state, state specialty, national, national specialty and international medical societies, as well as affiliated healthcare organizations and industry partners.

Formed in 1946 as the Medical Society Executive Conference with 69 members, today AAMSE transforms knowledge into useful skills, tools and applications that position medical society executives, and the organizations and physicians they serve, as leaders, change agents and innovators who set the standard for professionalism and quality.  (History of AAMSE)

The needs of patients receiving medical care, as well as those of the physicians who provide that care, are constantly changing.  Medical society executives assess those needs, gather knowledge about the drivers of change in health care, and lead in the development and implementation of innovative solutions to problems. 

Mission Statement

The mission of AAMSE is to advance the profession and professionalism of medicine by enhancing and recognizing the talent and work of medical society executives.  AAMSE exists to serve its membership and, through its members, their medical societies and ultimately the physicians they serve.

AAMSE will accomplish this mission by focusing on the highest priority issues facing physicians and medical societies and addressing them through the gathering and communication of knowledge and innovative education, and serving as a convener and collaborator that maximizes opportunity for networking, and recognizes outstanding achievement.

Vision Statement

The needs of patients receiving medical care, as well as the physicians who provide that care, are constantly changing.  Medical society executives are leaders.  They are in an optimal position to assess needs, gather knowledge about the drivers of change in health care and lead in the development and implementation of innovative solutions to problems.  Medical society executives are also in a unique position to serve as a source of positive influence and change.  AAMSE is the primary organization and resource for medical society executives.  AAMSE transforms knowledge into useful skills, tools and applications that position medical society executives, and through them, the organizations and physicians they serve, as leaders, change agents and innovators who set the standard for professionalism and quality.  AAMSE works to build and enhance the public trust, build community and encourage the highest quality of care while identifying and helping to remove barriers that prevent it.

Annual Conference 

Educational programs on timely issues, medical society management, collaborative efforts and extensive peer-to-peer networking opportunities.

Quality of Patient Care Initiative

Presentations and materials by leaders in the quality of patient care movement and discussion of trends, implications and tools relative to issues ranging from health information technology policy to pay-for-performance programs.

Medical Education Leadership Forum

An initiative to educate medical society leadership on the current continuing medical education (CME) environment; identify and fill knowledge gaps; build competencies; refine protocols and best practices; and stimulate innovation in the area of CME and continuing professional development.

Resource Center

Management resource center of documents, models and tools from other medical societies in the areas of communications, membership, finance, quality of patient care and human resources.

Leadership Academy

Intensive, three-day immersion in leadership strategies, tools, techniques and best practices to help medical society executives assess and enhance their leadership skills.

CEO Meetings

One and two-day gatherings of county, state and national specialty society CEOs that include presentations on and discussion of timely issues specific to these constituencies. 

Forums

A robust network of topic- and position-specific discussion boards where CEOs and staff specialists pose questions, share information, find solutions and learn from one another.

EDWeb

A series of interactive webinars on timely topics geared specifically to the interests and needs of medical society executives and staff specialists.
